Chapter 3 - Backup

What is a data backup?

Data backup is a backup of all the data that contains the cell phone, is of great importance to data backup before proceeding to perform a repair of a cell phone, more in the case of SmartPhone terminals that have large data capacity, because if a problem arises and the data of the phone is lostWe could back them up through the backup file.

In some cases, customers who leave their phones to repair give more value to the data that the phone itself, if something goes wrong, either because the phone plate is completely damaged, or in repair complications arise, the only thing that we could never recover deleted once are data from the phone, therefore, take steps appropriate to each case.

¡IMPORTANT!
In the case of repairs at the software level, it is essential to perform a backup of data since the process of flashing a phone delete all data contained on the phone, we will extend more details in subsequent chapters.

How to make a backup of data

To perform a data backup first, we must have the following elements:

1. PC or Notebock
2. Service Software
3. Means of connectivity between the PC and the phone

· Cabo USB
· Infrared
· Bluetooth

We will use the Nokia PC Suite, which is a free software that can be downloaded from its official website.

We connect media, in the example we will use USB, until the program recognizes the phone.

Open the PC Suite and you will be shown the screen program.

Double click the icon "Backup" is, and it will open the next screen.

and we give you a click the backup button, this began the process of data backup.

Synchronization contacts

As we could see, the backup of data, a file that is the actual backup is generated, but we have to bear in mind is that want to upload that backup file, we can do it on the same phone or another but same brand/model that was held to which the backup.

For example, in the video we see that we make a backup of data from a Nokia 6300, that file not could upload it for example to a Nokia N95 or any Motorola or SonyEricsson, etc.

A very common problem is that many people change phone model, but they lose their phone book since they can not upload it via the backup file, but a solution for the transfer of contacts between different models of phone, is to perform a sync of contacts through the PC Suite, allowing you to download the complete list of contacts to PC in the Windows address book or through Microsoft Outlook Express, once in the PC it would synchronize your contacts again but this time with another phone and so we could exchange phone memory between different models of cell phones, a much-sought order among customers.

To perform a synchronization of contacts, from the home screen of PC Suite, we give click the synchronize icon and the following screen appears.

To give a click on Synchronize now, copy data from the phone's telephone contacts to the Windows address book, to access the address book on your PC should go to start/programs/accessories/address book, give it a click and start to the next screen.

And once the synchronization is complete, can view the contacts from the phone to the PC, only enough upload these contacts to the phone you wish to.

Chapter 2 - Multimedia Service Configuration

Setting cell phone multimedia services

Multimedia Services

Multimedia services are benefits that have mobile phones that support GPRS data packets or higher, and are used to access internet or send MMS ( multimedia messages )
A phone that can work with all the features must be configured with the configuration parameters for the operator of the SIM Card you are using, or if you have multiple accounts set operators , you must select the account corresponding to the operator SIM Card you are using.

The services to be configured are :
  • Internet access
  • Sending MMS

 Internet access

Once your account is set for the Internet , the phone could browse WAP pages or if supported on Web pages
Also you can use the phone (if Modem functionality ) , to navigate a PC or Notebock , creating a connection and using cell phone as modem, where the operator providing the service to the SIM Card will become the ISP (Internet Service Provider)

 Sending MMS

As mentioned earlier also for sending MMS service , you must have the account charged in cell phone and the operator selected the SIM Card in use.
The MMS is a message in which you could combine text , image, sound or presentation provided they do not exceed 100 kb .

Terms and definitions used in mobile

GSM : Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM , “Groupe Spécial Mobile" ) is a standard , fully defined , for communication via mobile phones incorporating digital technology . Because digital any GSM client can connect through your phone to your computer and can do, send and receive messages by e- mail , surf the Internet and use other functions transmit digital data, including the Department of Posts (SMS ) or text messages and multimedia messages .

GPRS : General Packet Radio Service ( GPRS ) or general packet radio is an extension of the Global System for Mobile Communications (Global System for Mobile Communications, or GSM ) for non-switched data ( or packets).

EDGE: is an acronym for Enhanced Data rates for GSM of Evolution ( Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) . Also known as EGPRS (Enhanced GPRS). It is a mobile phone technology cell , which acts as a bridge between 2G and 3G networks . EDGE is considered an evolution of GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). This technology works with GSM networks . Although EDGE works with any GSM GPRS have implemented , the operator must implement the necessary updates , and not all mobile phones support this technology .

SMS: Short Message Service or SMS (Short Message Service) is a service available on mobile phones that permits the sending of short messages ( also known as text messages , or more colloquially , texts or text messages ) between mobile phones .

MMS : Multimedia Messaging System ( MMS ) or multimedia messaging system is a messaging standard that allows mobile phones to send and receive multimedia content , incorporating sound, video, photos or any other content available in the future. Multimedia messaging allows sending these further content email accounts , expanding the possibilities of mobile communication , being able to publish your digital photographs or weblogs act without the mediation of a computer. The boundary of each media message is usually 100 or 300 KB , depending on the phone , although this limit is defined by the operator or terminal characteristics .

WAP: Wireless Application Protocol or WAP ( Wireless Application Protocol ) is an open international standard for applications that use wireless communication, eg Internet access services from a mobile phone .

WEB: A website is a set of web pages , typically common to an Internet domain or subdomain on the World Wide Web on the Internet.

Symian: is an operating system that was the result of the alliance of several mobile phone companies , among which include Nokia , Sony Ericsson , Samsung , Siemens , Arima , BenQ , Fujitsu , Lenovo , LG , Motorola , Mitsubishi Electric , Panasonic , Sharp , etc. . Its origins come from his ancestor EPOC32 used in PDA 's and Handhelds Psion .

JAVA: Java™ technology is a programming language and software platform that can run on multiple operating systems . Nokia supports Java technology standardization , led by JCP (Java Community Process ) to avoid fragmentation. Consequently , applications created with the application programming interface in Java work on all Nokia phones, and other phones compatible with the technology , and provide an open platform to developers. Example applications would be: games , calculator , translator , currency converter , etc. .

Connectivity : The ability of a device ( a PC , peripheral , PDA , mobile, etc. . ) Of being connected (usually a PC or other device) without the need for a computer , ie independently. The mechanisms are known Connectivity : USB Cable - Infrared - Bluetooth

Bluetooth: As a new technology for wireless connectivity , Bluetooth eliminates cables used to connect digital devices . Based on a radio link short range and low cost, this technology can connect multiple types of devices wirelessly , providing greater freedom of movement. And , in the end , is that treating mobility. To connect , simply place two Bluetooth enabled devices at a distance up to 10 meters apart . And Bluetooth technology uses a radio link is not even necessary to have an online connection for communication . Your laptop can send information to a printer in the next room , or you can use your mobile phone to control the alarm system in your home. Bluetooth has already become a global common standard wireless connectivity. In the future, it will likely be a standard used in millions of mobile phones, personal computers , laptops and a whole range of electronic devices . Therefore, the market will require new innovative applications, value-added services and complete solutions .
